Welcome to Katja Seaton Ceramics, where each vessel and sculptural form is slowly built by hand using traditional coiling techniques and delicate piped decoration.
Working with clay as a responsive and tactile material, Katja develops her pieces gradually, allowing surfaces to grow through the careful accumulation of texture and ornament. Botanical forms, grasses and small creatures often emerge within the work, sometimes clearly visible and sometimes hidden within the surface.
Many pieces reflect what Katja describes as “little lives” — small presences that exist quietly at the edges of our attention. These subtle narratives sit within richly decorative surfaces, inviting the viewer to look closely and discover details that reveal themselves slowly over time.
From the quieter simplicity of the Empty Vessels series to more elaborate botanical forms, each piece evolves through hand-building, modelling and layered surface work in Katja’s Hastings studio.
The finished works sit somewhere between vessel and sculpture, combining traditional ceramic techniques with an ornamental language shaped by the natural world and an enduring fascination with decoration and storytelling.
Each piece is individually made by hand, meaning that no two works are exactly alike.
Discover unique artistry
Each ceramic work is built slowly by hand using coiling and detailed surface decoration. Inspired by forms found in nature, the vessels explore themes of fragility, resilience and the quiet beauty of imperfection. Their layered surfaces invite the viewer to look closely, revealing details that emerge over time.
